TomTom GPS
TomTom is a digital mapping and routing company with a focus on car navigation. TomTom is set apart from many other brands of global positioning systems because of its high quality map data base that is continuously updated by input of surveying vehicles. The company was founded by Harold Goddijn, Peter-Frans Pauwels, and Pieter Geelen in 1991. TomTom products are sold in over 30 countries covering Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Tele Atlas which was acquired by TomTom in 2008 provides maps with detailed street-level and interconnecting road networks.
TomTom offers several types of navigation systems ranging from car and motorcycle to mobile. One of the most impressive new items is the TomTom Go 740 Live. The Live offers real-time services with connection to traffic, fuel prices, and local internet searches powered by Google. Voice activation and capabilities for Bluetooth allow the user to say “Call Home” and the Go 740 live will do soon command. Unlike other GPS, the TomTom Go 740 calculates your routes based on the real average speed measured on roads rather than the speed limits. Not only is this function convenient but creates a safer driving atmosphere.
A popular trend for GPS purchasing is that of cell phone applications. The TomTom is available on the iPhone and ipod touch. It features its award-winning navigation technology with updated maps, the fastest routes with IQ routes and complete customization for optimal use on your mobile phone. Accessories for the TomTom GPS include carrying cases, USB ports for connection to PC or Mac and EASE skins which are personalized covers that come in several colors such as yellow, purple or red. TomTom offers the fast charger for almost any TomTom Go. The charger has your Go fully charged and ready to hit the road in just two hours. |
