GPS Accessories

The GPS offers an array of additional accessories that enhance the system drastically. The most common accessories and often times included in purchase prices are the battery recharger cables which can be utilized through a car cigarette lighter or through a power outlet in your own home. The GPS comes equipped with a built in battery typically which will run several hours before needing charge from this equipment. A portable friction mount is another tool included which allows the user to mount the GPS in various areas such as a car dashboard or bike mount. An essential accessory for any Global Positioning System would be the USB cable that connects your system to a laptop or desk computer. This tool will provide updated information regarding new maps or new areas which are consistently being constructed especially in urban areas.
Other GPS accessories that may be considered for personal taste would be that of a carrying case. Cases vary in size, shape, and durability. A hard case provides a safer environment for your GPS in case of an accidental drop or if something is spilled. A newer GPS may have a large color screen that the user will want to protect from scratch. A screen protector similar to that used on cell phones or ipods is also available for a GPS. A runner may consider an armband for a smaller GPS to use while running and find out the distance one has travelled during a workout. Some systems even have what is called a foot pod for your GPS which calculates speed, distance, and pace, or a heart rate monitor worn on the head will give you pulse rates and other data. Many newer GPS also have wireless internet access.
GPS accessories are rapidly growing and include cradles, infrared communication adaptors, weather caps, dog collar transmitters and more.
